Get the best information on preparing your fridge freezer for your removal when moving home in Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Stafford, Lincoln or Northampton
Just bought a new home and planning a house removal within Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Stafford, Lincoln or Northampton, then you will need to know the best way to preparing your fridge for your removal when moving home, the following tips will ensure that your fridge freezer is properly prepared and ready to be moved. By being organised and preparing your fridge freezer for your removal when moving home, will help to speed up the removal process, without any delays.
The key when moving home is to buy less food, or what you’ll need, on the run up to your house removal. Never fill the cupboards or fridge freezer with food before your move, as open food and drinks may be waste, depending on the distance of your move.
Empty all the food out of the freezer and then place carefully into an ice box, this will help to keep the food cold and cool, during your move.
Empty the fridge compartment of its contents, many of these food items will be fine, when packing them into strong, double wall removal boxes. Tape up packets of food that are already opened, to avoid them spilling, when placed or moved around in the boxes.
Pull the fridge freezer forward so you can unplug from the main socket.
If moving far away you will need to defrost your fridge freezer, to do this turn the refrigerator off completely and leave for up to two days at room temperature, prior to your move.
Now we need to remove all shelving and plastic tubs inside the refrigerator. If your shelves are made of glass, then they will need to be wrapped , using strong quality bubble wrapping, which will help to keep the shelves safe, from getting damaged or broken. Once bubble wrapped place the shelves into removal boxes.
Get some soapy water, so you can clean the fridge freezer, leaving it clean and smelling nice for your new home. You may want to clean behind the fridge freezer, where the over flow bowl sits, as this can some times gather dust and cob webs, which you will not want to move to your new home.
If you fridge freezer is not going to be used, once at your new home, you will need to leave the doors ajar. The easiest method for this is to fold some cardboard up and trap it between the door frame of the fridge freezer. Using tape secure the doors, so the cardboard holds its position. This will help to keep air circulating inside the fridge freezer, which will prevent rot and mould from forming inside the fridge freezer.
Before deciding to move the fridge freezer, you will need the correct equipment, another person and no history of back problems. Protect the fridge freezer before moving it, using bubble wrapping, shrink wrapping and removal blankets, this will help to prevent scrapes, marks and scuffs being done to your fridge freezer.

Following our tips and advice, on how to disconnect and re-connect your washing machine when moving home in Cannock, Lichfield or Tamworth, Staffordshire, will save you valuable time and ensure the washing machine is disconnected correctly, without flooding or soaking the floors. Washing machines are heavy to move so extra help will be needed to move, disconnect and re-connect the washing machine safely.
How to disconnect and re-connect your washing machine when moving home in Cannock, Staffordshire
How to disconnect your Washing machine
Start by pulling the washing machine away from the wall or the space that it is in, so you can gain access to the pipes at the back of the washing machine.
You will have either a blue or a red rubber pipe, if not both, connected to the bottom of the washing machine.
Follow these pipes and see where they are connected to.
When you have found the mains water supply valves, that the blue and red pipes are connected to, you will need to switch the valve off, before disconnecting the pipes.
Check how to find and stop the water from your water supply
On the valves you will have red cap and a blue cap, red is for hot water and blue is for cold water.
Turn the red and blue caps roughly 9o degrees, in the opposite direction, this will stop the flow of water, so the pipes may be disconnected.
When happy water flow has stopped, slowly start by disconnecting the blue and red pipes.
You may need a bucket to catch access water.
Now you will need to disconnect your washing machines over flow pipe, this is usually the grey plastic pipe, that gets rid of waste water.
Follow the grey pipe at the bottom of the washing machine, and pull it out of the white drainage pipe, which will be in view of the blue and red pipes from the washing machine.
Now you have all pipes disconnected, you will need to stabilise the drum of the washing machine using the stoppers, the stoppers are screwed to the back of the washing machine.
How to re-connect your washing machine
Depending on how old your washing machine is, will depend on how many pipes you will need to connect. Older washing machine may need two pipes, while new washing machines only need one for cold water.
Start by looking for the connection points on the valves, one will be for hot the other for cold.
Re-connect the correct colour pipes to the correct colour valves.
Once you have re-connected the blue and red pipes you will need to then need to connect the over flow pipe.
Once this has been successful plug-in the washing machine, most modern homes will have a plug socket, at the side of the washing machine, for easy access.

Simple steps on how to pack your sofa when moving home in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire or Northamptonshire
One of the largest items in your home will be your sofa, whether it be a 2 seater sofa, 3 seater sofa or a chair, getting it out of the living room and out of the house on to your removal lorry, can be a little tricky. So always bare this mind when buying a new sofa for your home.
Following our guide on how to pack your sofa, when moving home in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire or Northamptonshire. This guide will ensure your sofa is not covered in scratches, marks and scrapes, when moving to your new home property in the East Midlands region.
How to pack your sofa when moving home
When packing your sofa be sure to have enough space and room to work around the sofa.
- If your sofa has legs attached to it, remove them before wrapping if possible.
- If you can’t remove the legs, use some cardboard to protect them and stick down using tape, this will help add protection.
- You will also need some quilted removal blankets, shrink wrapping, bubble wrapping or foam wrapping and tape.
- If you sofa is very sentimental and expensive you will want to add as much protection to it as you can, to do this you will need to apply some bubble wrapping.
Wrapping your sofa
- Wrap, bubble wrap around the sofa, cover all the hard areas, like the back, arms and sides of the sofa. When happy the bubble wrap is covering the sofa, stick the bubble wrap down, to hold it, in its place.
- Be sure never stick the tape to the sofa.
- Using 2 removal blankets, lay them on the middle of the floor, over lap the blankets at the middle. (The idea of this, is that the sofa will sit on top of the removal blankets in the centre).
Placing the sofa
- Place the sofa in the middle of the blankets. You should have roughly at least 30 cm of blanket, around the sides of whole sofa.
- You will now need to place 2 more removal blankets over the top of the sofa, again make the blankets over lap in the middle.
- The blankets on the top of the sofa, should be covering the sofa, stretch the blanket, so that it meets with the bottom blankets.
- Once you are happy the sofa is fully covered and not exposed at all, start taping the removal blankets together, so that they hold in place and do not fall or slip of the sofa.
Other sofa tips
- Once you are happy the removal blankets are taped down to the sofa, you will need to secure further using shrink wrapping.
- To do this properly, you need to stand the sofa on it side, (long ways).
- Starting from the top of the sofa, rotate the shrink-wrap around the sofa, pulling the shrink-wrap as tight as possible, you will have to rotate the sofa on its other side to shrink-wrap the other end of the sofa.
Now you have a fully wrapped and protected sofa, that will not be damaged, scraped or torn when moving home. This process may take 20-30 mins of your time, but is the safest, most efficient and cost-effective way, of how to pack your sofa when moving home in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire or Northamptonshire.
