Housing benefit

Housing benefit is a security benefit paid by the Housing Executive. It helps people on a low income pay their rent and rates. You do not need to be unemployed to get housing benefit. If you think you might be entitled to housing benefit you will need to apply by filling in a form (HB1 housing benefit application form) and return it to your local authority.

If you are already in receipt of housing benefit then you will have to complete and sign a form confirming details of your new address. If you rent from a private landlord you will need to have an additional form completed by your landlord. (but not if your landlord is the Housing Executive, a Hostel or registered Housing Association)
