Countersthorpe gets its name from the 11th century when the niece of William the conqueror called Countess Judith was married in the area. The Thorpe part is from the middle English word meaning hamlet or small Village. St Andrew’s is the village church and has been since 1220 started by the family of Lord Willam of Ludbrook. Restoration took place in 1840 and again in 1907.
