When is the right time to start packing for a move?
It is hard enough when packing for a 2 week holiday so the prospect of packing your whole house to move to a new address can be very daunting for most of us. When is the right time to start packing for a move? You should be starting to collect moving boxes at least a month before your expected move date. Starting to pack early will minimize the rush.
Start collecting all the packing materials you will need
You will need a good selection of different sized boxes for different items you have to pack. Be sure to always purchase good quality, strong, double wall boxes for your removal. If in doubt consult your removal company. Things you will need:
- A variety of moving boxes
- Bubble wrap
- Brown tape
- Marker pens
- Packing paper
- Scissors

Pack any unused rooms/items first
Packing any rooms or items that are generally unused is a good starting point. This also gives you an opportunity to throw away or donate any items you no longer want or use. Unused rooms/items include:
- The Garage
- Garden shed
- Attic space
- Spare rooms
- Conservatory
- Cellar
- Storage/airing cupboards

Dismantling larger items of furniture
Dismantling larger items of furniture in advance will not only save you time on your move day but will also give you enough time to wrap or pack any dismantled items ready for your move.
- Place any screws, bolts etc into secure labelled bags.
- Wrap any delicate items in bubble wrap to protect them from damage.

Pictures/ Mirrors
- Now is also a good time to demount any pictures,photos or mirrors you may have hanging around the house.
- Placing an x shaped piece of tape over glass will protect against shattering.
- Lay all pictures,photos and mirrors face down onto bubble wrap and secure with tape.
- Place wrapped items into the right size box.
