Find The Best Money Saving Tips When Moving Home
Moving home and hiring a professional house removals company, doesn’t have to be an expensive job at all. Our step by step guide on money saving tips when moving home will ensure that you do the right things to cut the cost of moving and your house removals right down.
Moving companies usually charge based on the volume of items, furniture and man power needed to complete your home move. The size and nature of your move will reflect the overall price you will have to pay. Listed below are some simple money saving tips when moving home.
[divider icon=”” style=”none”]
keeping the cost down when moving home :
- Donate old and unwanted items and furniture to your local charities. (This will reduce the volume and weight of items to be moved)
- Pass on unwanted clothing and belongings to friends and family or donate to local charities.
- Have a yard sale to sell all unwanted items, furniture and belongings, which will help to bring in extra money to pay for your move.
- Place furniture with online websites like Gumtree, Facebook or Ebay to get a return on your unwanted furniture and belongings
[divider icon=”” style=”none”]
Sell, give away, recycle or donate to your local charity:
- Books (that you have not read for many years)
- Records and CDs (that are all out of season and can easily be replaced)
- Clothing and shoes (that are old and you will not where again or have not worn for some time)
- Toys (maybe your children are older and still have unused toys stored in the loft etc)
- Garden tools ( if moving from large property to a small property you will not need the ride on lawn mower)
- Fire wood ( which can be bought in your new area)
- Weight lifting machines (these items can weigh a considerable amount which can increase the price of your move)
- Cutlery, pot, pans, kettle and other kitchen utensils
[divider icon=”” style=”none”]
Have a house clearance :
When considering how to save money on the cost of moving home, having a clear out and selling or donating furniture and items that you have not used in a long while is a good way of keep moving costs low. Check through your rooms, garage, attic, basement and collect up all those items, furniture, clothes, old electronics, books only if it is unlikely that you will never use or need them again.
If you have sentimental and valuable items hold on to them. However if you find tons of items you forgot about, give them away or donate them on to your local charities. This will save you time and money when moving home. The less stuff you have to move the cheaper it will cost and the less cluttered your new home will be.
[divider icon=”” style=”none”]
Stay organized and make lists :
Organization is the key for an efficient and successful move. The more efficient you are, the less you will have to pay. When you have organized every aspect of your move and know exactly how much it is all going to cost, only then will you be able to save on your move. Make lists on task that you can complete and try to stick to them.
[divider icon=”” style=”none”]
Hiring a professional house removal company :
It’s ok to consider low cost house removal firms, but make sure you are hiring a reputable moving company, sometimes the cheapest option is not always the best. It is important that house removal companies are licensed and insured and have a good reputation to carry out your move to the highest of standards. That way you will prevent any moving scams or unexpected charges during the moving process.
[divider icon=”” style=”none”]
Negotiate on price :
Most house removal companies will always work to a customers budget and needs, so never give up trying to negotiating with them. Be honest and upfront about exactly what you can afford and have to be moved to the new home. Negotiating should not mean that you have to compromise on the quality of the service you receive.

- If moving a short distance moving a few essentials in the boot of your car can help to keep moving costs low.
- Move during the beginning of the month and on a Monday or Tuesday which are moving companies least busiest times.
- If possible avoid moving on Friday’s, as this can be a busy day for removal companies.
- Book your move well in advance, many removal companies offer discounts when customers book in advance.
- Be sure that all contracts have been exchange and you have the keys to your new property before the removal men arrive at your new home, this will avoid lengthy waiting times and additional charges.
- Be sure you have insurance in place for your move, this can be provided by your moving company.

Great Tips & Advice When Moving Home With House Plants
Sometimes one of the most difficult decisions we face when we are moving home is what to do with the Houseplants. As plants often become part of the family we offer useful and practical advice for anyone moving home with House
Following our great tips and advice will help protect your house plants during transit:
When Moving Home with houseplants it is a good idea to re pot your plants into plastic containers. Just remember that your plants need time to adjust and recuperate from re-potting, so do this a few weeks in advance of the move.
Tall plants need to be carefully wrapped in plastic or bagged. Always remember to put a few air holes in the bag to allow your plants to breath during their journey.
Line some appropriately sized, strong, double walled boxes with plastic or plastic bags before placing the plants carefully inside the box. Use bubble wrap to fill the gaps between the pot and the box. This will help stop the pots moving in the box during transit.
When your plants arrive at your new home, make sure you remove the plastic immediately, take them out of their boxes and give them some water and plant food.
If you had transplanted them into plastic containers and you want to put them back into their original pots, make sure you wait at least a week before doing this.
You don’t want to over-stress them this could result in stunted growth or even death of the plant. Keep an eye on any garden plants that you do take to your new home as the difference in soil, climate and air quality will have an affect on their health.
If you want to take some of your outdoor plants with you, take some cuttings. Purchase some floral tubes, fill them with water, then cap them. This should ensure that your cuttings arrive ready for your new garden.

Tips & Advice For Families Moving Home With Children
If moving home with children and preparing a house removals, you will know it can be an incredibly stressful and distressing time for them. After all, they might be leaving their friends, school and the familiar home that they’ve always known. This article explains the challenges children face when moving home and what you can do to help the situation.
- Involve your children in the move
- Allow them to say goodbye
- Durning the move
- After the move
- Packing children’s toys
- Tips for packing toys when moving home with children
Involve your children in the move
Giving children tasks and responsibility will give them control over their own situation. Involve them in the packing and let them pack up their own toys and room. Make sure that your children’s toys are the last items to be packed onto the removal truck and are therefore easily accessed at the other end. If possible, let younger children pack up their own bedrooms. It’s important that they feel comfortable and like their own space. Taking your children for a fun day out in the new area can help make them feel more confident in the move. Show them the lovely local parks, leisure centres, child-friendly restaurants, schools and cinemas.
Allow them to say goodbye
If you’re moving out of the area, organise a little leaving party. Take photographs of your children’s friends, their current home, bedroom and favourite places in the neighbourhood. You could even help them create a scrapbook. Do make sure they have their friends’ contact details, including telephone numbers and email addresses, so they know they won’t have to lose contact.
During the move
Ideally, have friends or relatives look after your children on the day of your house move. If this isn’t possible, keep children in the loop as to what’s happening and give them little tasks to do, such as ensuring all toys are cleared from the house and loaded into the van.For very young children, make sure their high chairs and feeding/changing equipment is to hand, so that you can maintain their routine as much as possible during the move.
After the move
When moving home with children, don’t be surprised if your child becomes more clingy after moving to a new house, this is natural. Stick to your routine as much as possible especially around bedtime and meals. Don’t unpack all boxes straight away, but make it the main focus to unpack their boxes first, having their room sorted as soon as possible; so they have as many things around them that are familiar will help them settle quicker. It may be a couple of days after your move that it hits your child, this can be when all the fun and chaos have finished and when tears can appear, so spend time exploring the new area with your child especially parks, swings or take walks pointing out all the new exciting things they can do. Local baby or toddler groups are ideal for meeting new mums and finding out about your area.
Packing Children’s Toys
If you are moving home with children you should be aware that children will usually hold onto their things a little bit tighter. Moving is all about change and this often unsettles children. If you have younger children, always try to pack their room last and when possible unpack their room first at the new home. Let your child pack some of their own toys and let them pick some toys out to keep with them in a bag.
Tips for packing toys when Moving home with children:
- Remember to drain all water from squirt guns and bath toys.
- Seal paints or any other messy items away into a bag.
- Pack the toys in boxes with brown wrapping paper and fill spaces with towels/clothes.
- Fragile toys can be wrapped in extra bubble wrap.
- Once all items are packed seal the box and let your child write their name on it or maybe even decorate the box

Practical advice for preparing your pets when moving home
The trick to preparing your pets when moving home is to minimize your pets house moving stress. Moving home is always a stressful time but even more so for your pets who do not understand what is going on.

Familiarize the area
Make sure your pet has all its favorite toys and bedding and, once you have moved, don’t wash its bedding for a little while, so that it has some familiar smells to go with the unfamiliar, new ones. If your pet is not used to travelling in a carrier, put the carrier in its living area for a few days before you go so it becomes more familiar to your pet.

Packing time
It may be best for your pet if it is confined to one room during the packing stage: allowing it the run of your home when there is so much upheaval might make it even more anxious. Conversely, animals can sense something is happening and might be tempted to run and hide in a favorite spot in the garden or at a neighbors.

The Day of your move
When preparing your pets when moving home bear in mind that on the day of moving home with your pets, do not feed your pet for at least three hours before leaving the house. This will help with any unpleasant accidents in the carrier during the move! If you’re really concerned about your pet during all the disruption of packing up your home, you could consider putting it into a kennel or cattery for a few days.

After the move
Both dogs and cats may try to return to their original home following moving home with your pets. To prevent that happening, it may be necessary to keep them inside, or under supervision if outside, for a few weeks once you’re in your new home. It’s probably best not to let them go outside unaccompanied for at least a week, and at the very least, make sure they are wearing an up-to-date identity collar with your name and new address and phone number on. If your cat doesn’t protest too much, putting it on a specially designed cat lead while it gets to know its new outdoor surroundings is a good idea.?

Stick to a routine
Pets like familiar routines, so try to stick to your normal routine for as long as possible in the lead-up to the move and then get back into it as quickly as you can in your new home, especially in terms of when they are fed and/or taken for a walk.

Keep an eye on them
Dogs and cats (in particular) are territorial animals and moving into a new home will require your cat to mark out its territory. This can lead to conflict with other cats, which, for the most part, you should probably allow to take place. If you think your cat is getting into fights, check it on a regular basis for wounds.
