[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

The Essential Guide On How To Fit & Install Floating Shelves

[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

1) Before you start fitting your floating shelves you will need to be sure that the floating shelves will fit nicely in the room and in its place. With some help and a pencil, out line the for corners of the wall where the floating shelves will be placed.

Check if the line is straight using a sprit level. Once this is done and you are happy with the alignment of where the shelves will sit, you can then use the brackets as a guide and out line where the brackets will be positioned onto the wall.

You will need to use a sprit level to be 100% sure that every thing is lined up straight. Once happy you can separate the all the screws and fittings. Study the brackets for the floating shelves carfully to determine where they will sit on the wall in your room.

[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

2) Place the bracket to the wall, you may have 3 or four brackets to fit, depending in the length of the floating shelves. At the back of the floating shelf you will have the holes in which the brackets will go in to, you will need to measure the gap between each hole before putting up the floating shelves,  this can be a little tricky, especially if it is your first time.

When you are happy the brackets are lined up, you will need to start assembling the brackets. Before screwing the brackets into the wall use a wire and cable detecor, to be sure your not drilling into the any electiral wires, hidden inside the wall.

[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

3) Every thing is lined up, the position of the floating shelves the possition of the brackets and their are no wires in the wall, now you can go ahead an start to drill your holes in the wall for the floating brackets to be attatched. Drill one hole at a time, fit the bracket and finish the rest of the holes for the other brackets.

Once you have drilled your first holes for the bracket, you will need to place a wall plug inside the holes you have just drilled. Double check before placing the bracket and screws that every hole straight and in place.

Level the holes in the braket, whre the screws will go, with the holes of the wall and then put the screws through the bracket and into the wall.

Only tighten the screws a little, untill all screws are in place and the fully tighten. You will need to repeat this process for the remainding brackets untill all are fitted firmly to the wall.

[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

4) Once you have all brackets in place you can then go ahead and attach your floating shelves. This is a simple process. Take the floating shelves and level the holes at the back, with the brackets, push the floating shelves onto the brackets and flat against the wall, for flush finish.

[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

5) There you have it your floating shelf up, fitted, and installed. Check it is sturdy, strong and will with stand the items you will place on there.

4 things to be aware of when fitting floating shelves

[divider icon=”” style=”none”]

When installing you will need to be aware of the thickness of your walls and whether the walls are thick enough to hold the weight of the floating shelves. If your wall is brick, it will hold much more weight than plaster board, so double check this before drilling any holes.

Check that the floating shelves are big enough for the space you wish to have them fitted.

Be sure that when drawing your markings for the floating shelf and the brackets, that the markings are spot on. If the markings are not spot on the brackets will not fit inside the floating shelves.

Be sure all brackets, bolts and screws are attached, before putting up the floating shelves. The last thing you need is for the shelves to be lose, or at the worst fall from the wall.

If you are putting floating shelves or putting them up for the first time, we would love to hear your story. Feel free to leave a comment on your experience and how you got on putting up your floating shelves.
